and out east because it's a monster -- >> it's unprecedented, historical. for us, though, we have a little change in our weather pattern. now, because of the magnitude of sandy, everything is kind of slowing down so we're holding off until thursday morning but we have dense fog. that is until 8:00 but some of the fog until 9:00. here's sal. stever, traffic on interstate 880 oakland good in both directions and more crowded, though, as you head to the bay bridge toll plaza. also we're looking at the toll plaza and more crowded with still room for fast track and carpoolers. let's go back to the deverick. topping our news for the second time in three years, the san francisco giants are world champions. they swept the detroit tigers with a 4-3 victory in extra innings of game 4. [ cheers and applause ] >> got him looking! and the giants have won it all! >> he struck out miguel crab a

to end the game in the 10th inning and marco scutaro with the big hit, a two-out sing that will brought in the go- ahead run. the giants say it was a team effort. >> enjoy every minute of it. it was hard-earned and incredible group of guys that fought for each other. >> certainly is an incredible group of guys. this is the second giants world championship in three years. they're the first national league team to complete that since the cincinnati reds in the 1970s. some rowdy giants fans trashed the street of san francisco overnight. ali rasmus is here to show us what vandals did. >> reporter: well, this is where part of the celebration became very messy, ugly, and smelly, out on 16th and mission, which is behind us. you can see the remnants of one of the burnt-out dumpster in the middle of the street.

now, this has been here for several hours. we checked with one of the dpw crews, and i believe the problem is the plastic from one of those bins melted into the asphalt so that's why they are having a bit of a difficult time trying to clear away. there's a police car behind it so some of the cars driving down here don't directly run into it. now, this all started after the giants victory when rowdy fans pour into the streets and within hours, people began setting dumpsters on fire. a fire back tollon chief said there was fires on almost every block from 16 and mission to 24th. one business was threatened, but firefighters extinguished the fire. fans were participating in an unlawful assembly and told to leave the area. we saw officers make several arrests. some mission district resident said the party got quickly out of hand. >> it was fun at first. it's fun in the beginning. but, you know, the reason that

i left the chaos was because a friend of mine was hit in the face with a beer can. and that's when it was just too wild. >> people should not tear up city they love so much. why would the giants want to win again if this is what we do to show our appreciation? >> reporter: one mission resident was so frustrated with tipped-over trash can she is came to clean out part of the mess in front of her apartment building. departments of works crews cleaned out the trash and made a lot of progress because this street was much, much messier than it is right now. they're extinguishing fires in some dumpster that flared up and continued to smolder for hours. now, we arrived at 1:00 this morning and drove around the mission district. we didn't see any broken windows or any visible signs of structural damage to any of the businesses on mission or valencia between 16th and 24th so it appears most of the damage was limited to the

dumpsters and trash cans and some news racks left out here. live in san francisco, allies are mass, ktvu channel 2 news. >> a viewer sent this video of a muni bus set on fire. this happened on third and market streets overnight. we have no word on anyone being injured. and there was a loud but peaceful celebration in san francisco's inner sunset district. now, ktvu viewer sent this cell phone video from ninth and irving. some fans were banging on the tops of newspaper racks after just bowering out onto the streets. now, this celebration didn't appear to get out of hand in this part of the city. [ cheers and applause ] and a lot of love for the giants in the south bay as well. the san jose bar pack with fans wearing their orange and black. the fans can't wait for the giants to come back home and a lot of them plan to be at

wednesday's victory parade. well, bay area sports stores can expect a business boom as fans look for world series championship merchandise. ktvu's brian flores is in union city now, where some have been working through the night to get all the gear ready. brian? >> reporter: hey, pam. yeah. good morning to you. definitely a good day to be a giants fan, no question about that. yeah, we're live in studio 1204, one of several printing shops cranking the world series championship t-shirts for the san francisco giants in union city. let's bring in chuck johnson, who is the head of studio 1204. chuck, i understand there's three different designs for the world series shirts. can you explain them? >> well, we have three we're printing. the gray one is the locker room t-shirt, which is a shirt that players are putting on right after the game ended. then this is what they're calling the parade t-shirt, and then just one tore desi we're doing there so a total of three

different designs. >> reporter: talk to us when you started printing the shirts. i understand it's kind of a short process. talk a little about that. >> well, what we do -- we work with imagewear and they ask us to be what they call a hot market printer. that means they send the shirts in anticipation of winning the world series or national championships and we basically have to get ready to print. we get the designs ready, sample them, send them out for approval with major league baseball, and then just -- keep our fingers crossed that we'll need to print them. >> reporter: you have been starting since last night -- early this morning? >> we actually started about 24 hours ago and took a break of about six hours and came back after the game finished and have been going ever since. >> reporter: all right and will probably go on until noon today when they're cranking out the shirts. you can find them at a lot of different locations. we will have that at 6:45. back to you in the studio. >> all right, very exciting.

if you're driving to the 101, a nice drive to the airport in case you're trying to catch a flight we can even out of downtown san francisco, 101 looks clear to the airport in san bruno. 6:08. let's go to steve. >> thank you. warm air squashing some of the fog so we have dense, coastal fog and inland fog so a fog advisory is out until 8:00 but some of that will probably last will little longer -- yeah, maybe a little misty on the coast. a little damp but likely tomorrow into wednesday we will have a ramp up of that. our cloud forecast doesn't do much for high-and-midlevel clouds but keeps low clouds on the coast so some of this fog will begin to increase -- i think wednesday night into thursday as the front get closer but slowing down and makes sense with the absolute just monster system back east slowing everything down but we will have a lot of low clouds back to the coast. 40s and 50s on the temps right now, overall cool for some but foggy for others. high pressure still in place today but will slowly break down as the system comes in so

a dense fog advisory out. the cooling begins today as well. look for this trend to continue into tuesday and wednesday. we'll bottom out wednesday into thursday and start another warmup for the weekend. the parade looks good with low clouds, maybe a little drizzle bull overall, 50s to near 60. we don't have to worry about rain, that's for sure. now, if it was thursday i would say, yeah. but thursday looks good. the rain will hold off until 6:00 a.m. thursday so overall unless you're by the coast, we're all right. foggy, sun, cooler, dense fog advisory until 8:00 but some of the dense fog may last longer. 70s for some, 60s for other, but maxing out over the weekend. we'll start to drop tomorrow and more so wednesday. more rain thursday morning but clearing out friday with the weekend in view -- sunny and warmer again. >> all right, thank you, tom. 6:10. hurricane sandy getting even stronger, barreling towards the east coast. schools, mass transit, the financial markets are all shut down this morning.

this picture you're looking at live at atlantic city, new jersey. my old stomping ground. we have heard reports of 35- foot part of the boardwalk just washed away in the last hour. we're getting reports of flooding up and down the east coast. some 50 million people may be affected by this big storm and could be large next american history. well, the storm is so big it's a nightmare for air travelers nationwide. airlines have cancelled thousands of flights. amtrak is suspending train service across the northeast. dozens of flights to the east coast are cancelled this morning. at sfo and a lot of cancellations, many cancellations are on united airlines but other airlines are affected as well. >> yeah. we are talking about hurricane sandy. coming up next, how the huge storm is now impacting the presidential race. plus, a very busy morning for firefighter in the south bay. look at what they have been battling in this stubborn fire. in there, i'm gonna score.

right this minute -- videos first. >> announcer: weekday mornings at 9:00 on ktvu fox 2. ♪ >> welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. we have developing news. san jose firefighters are battle a stubborn fire at an empty warehouse that started just about two hours ago. now, here's a picture from the scene. firefighters said this fire is still not under control. no reports of any injuries but firefighters are worried about the stability of the building. they also say this is the third multiple-alarm fire they have respond to in less than 24

hours. nearly three dozen new recruits will start the firefighting academy in san jose. it's one of the biggest classes ever. the recruits will help bring the department closer to its staffing levels before recent cutbacks. the academy class is being paid for by an $8.6 million grant from fema. recruit will graduate in march. time now just about 6:15. new this morning, president obama right now is head back to washington, d.c., after canceling a florida campaign appearance because of the approaching hurricane sandy. ktvu's scot mcfarland is on the streets of washington, d.c., to show us how it's affecting federal government, as well as the president's schedule. scott? >> reporter: dave, good morning. hurricane sandy has just arrived. the winds are picking up and for that reason, the u.s. government is closed -- congress shut down, the federal agencies -- irs and social security closed. as you mentioned, president obama returning here from a

campaign stop in orlando this morning to oversee the response. here's a live look at atlantic city, new jersey. they're to the east of us along the shore. the winds are stronger and surf is stiff and nearing record levels. it will approach the record levels later tonight. we have a severe weather situation, so severe in washington, d.c., the instruction is quite clear. "stay indoors." here's president obama talking about hurricane sandy. >> reporter >> going to be slow moving. that means that it may take a long time not only to clear but also to get, for example, the power companies back in to clear trees and to put things back in place so that folks can start moving back home. >> reporter: here's the summary. schools are closed, transit systems are closed, roads will soon be impassable. i saw a power company from alabama driving through d.c. they have called in reinforcements across the country. the estimates now -- millions will likely lose power some time tonight.

live this morning, scott mcfarland, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, scott. the time is 6:16. a moderate earthquake in central california overnight but so far, there's no word of any damage or injuries. it was a 4.2 magnitude quake that hit about 5 miles northwest of pinnacles national monument and 13 miles northeast of the town of soledad. that area often feels quakes because pinnacles include a rock formation left by an extinct volcano and the san andreas fault runs right through it. the violence continues in syria, despite the cease-fire that is supposed to be in effects. both the government and rebel forces agree to a cease-fire during a four-day muslim holiday that ends today. however, the truce collapsed almost immediately after it was supposed to take effect. activists said more than 100 people were killed both saturday and sunday. and today, the syrian government said a car bomb in damascus in a suburb killed ten people.

the trial continues today for a man accused of a string of violent sexual assault in san francisco. 32-year-old frederick dozier is accused of raping, beating, and robbing three women in the mission district between june and december of last year. he was arrested in january after police received a tip. if convicted, he could get life in prison. also this morning, jury deliberations continue in the trial of giselle else tee ban, the union city woman accused of killing michelle lay. she killed her former friend in may of last year because else tee ban thought lay was dating her ex-boyfriend. pros cue she could be charg ed for manslaughter. people have been getting call in the middle of the night from what they believe are their grandchildren. they're claiming to be in a mexico jail and need money to get out.

experts are saying older americans lose about $2.9 billion a year to frauds like that. most of the victims are women between ages 80 and 90. time now is 6:18. talked about it this morning -- >> yeah. >> really foggy over the bridge. >> you were in it. >> yeah. i came to almost a some when i hit a wall of fog. it is still pretty bad out there? >> it is, pam and dave. allow yourself extra time if you can -- i know that's a tall order in the morning. some areas are not and those are areas we shough show you cameras. westbound 24 moderately heavy. on the oakland side you can will see fog and the danger -- you will drive along in clear weather and then will come in to some fog. at the bay bridge toll plaza, it is fill in a little bit. the metering light have been switched on and backed to the 880 crossing. if you're driving 101 to the

airport -- perhaps a flight -- no major problems. check with sfo. i think the fog may affect some flights and if you're trying to get to the eastern part of the country, you know what is going on there so check with your carrier as well. 6:19. let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you. we have a lot of fog around, dense fog advisory out coast and inland until 8:00 but some of the fog on the coast is very, very shallow and highway 1 could reduce visibility not only for this morning but i think the next couple of days. also some kind of misty, drizzly conditions are possible but it's not confine to the coast. again, we have inland fog -- santa rosa, con card, clayton -- really thick fog and also towards hayward so be careful. patchy dense fog advisory until 8:00 but the fog doesn't read the advisory -- may go until 9:00 for some. we have a cooler pattern in place so dense fog in the morning, otherwise clear and cool. mostly sunny, some fog near the coast, but cooler with 60s and 70s. 40s or 50s. for some is mild, and for

others cool. santa rosa, 46. system from the north taking the edge off high-pressure system. our rain for thursday morning will really put on the air brakes -- no pun intended -- because of how massive sandy is in the east. it will slow everything down. i don't worry about rain for the victory parade -- drizzle but overcast, 50s to around 60. and i think the trick-or- treaters are all right wednesday night. cloudy with drizzle near the coast but again quick think by this time thursday morning is when we will talk about rain. 60s and 50s on the temps. foggy for some here for awhile and sunny but cooler. a little cooler on temperatures closer to the coast but also inland. i mean, out of those 80s and more 70s and we'll see temperatures kind of sliding down the rest of the week, increasing clouds late wednesday, rain thursday morning, clearing friday. >> all right, steve. time 6:21. a suspected prowler at the home of movie star tom cruise. what a security guard did to stop that man from breaking in. thousands gathered in san francisco's civic center to cheer the giants. how those same people could be celebrating with the team in san francisco later this week.

arrested a suspected prowler at tom cruise's house. the actor was not at home at the time. the security guard spotted the man climbing a fence to get onto the property. he then used stun gun to subdue the suspect and called police. the suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital to be checked for ill effect from the taser. a town hall meeting will be held tonight in richmond on the city's campaign to tax sugary drinks. measure n would add a 1 cent per ounce tax on sodas and other sugary drinks. if it passes, richmond would become the country's first city to impose such a tax on businesses. the town hall meeting starts at 7:00 at bethlehem hem missionary baptist church in richmond. >> 6:25. a big celebration in san francisco civic center last night. thousands gather to watch the giants win the world series. [ cheering ] the chain was flowing out -- champagne were flowing out there although fans were not supposed to have alcohol in the

plaza. mayor lee wanted to give families chance to cheer on the giants together. >> i knew it was going to happen. you know, it was already written, and the giants, they came through with flying colors. number one, baby! number one! [ cheering ] >> this is not the first time fans have been invite to the civic center plaza. more than 7,000 fans were there to watch the giants win the world series in 2010. now, the city of san francisco's preparing a victory parade for the giants this wednesday, halloween. just like in 2010, the ticker- tape parade will start at the foot of market street at 11:00 a.m. and go down market street to civic center plaza. all right, steve has been talking about the weather. we'll check in with him in just a moment. sal, how is traffic? hey sal. >> all right, well, i was just pointing -- >> you're on tv, bud. >> i am? well, okay, thank you very much. this morning's commute -- the traffic is well although the fog is going to get you and

u.s. history. some celebrations turn to riots in wake of the giants' victory. why some officers said this is the worst damage they have ever seen in san francisco.

[ laughter ] see, i was waiting to say good morning and said good morning to you. thank you for joining us on ktvu channel 2 news. it's a monday. we do that on a monday occasionally. >> yes, we do. >> it's october 29. i'm dave clark. >> i'm pam cook. it's 6:30. we stayed up late to watch the game. normally we bring you the opening bell, but the stock markets are closed because of hurricane sandy. no electronic trading, either. we will have the latest on hurricane sandy from the east coast coming up in just about six minutes. but first, we'll start with the san francisco giants. the giants are world champions,

and they will be coming back to san francisco this afternoon as the 2012 world champions. as you know, they beat the detroit tigers, swept the series 4-3 last night in extra innings in game 4. [ cheers and applause ] >> got him looking! and the giants have won it all! >> that's a cover shot right there. sergio romo struck out triple- crown winner miguel cabrera to end the game in the 10th. but in top of the 10th, marco scutaro to bring in the go- ahead run -- pam liked the slide. >> i love that. >> scutaro credited rest of his teammates. >> my team is just -- came through. first series, second series, and now -- we shut down the tigers. i said to my team -- please, i don't want to be against the world again. let's try to get rid of this quick. >> yeah. in case you didn't know, this

is the giants' second world championship in three years. they're if first national league team to do that since the cincinnati reds did it back in the mid1970s. now, there's something else -- a big mess to clean up all around following last night's celebration the streets. ktvu's tear a moriarty is near the park right now. you're going to tell us about vandalism and violence. tara? >> reporter: some officers told us this is actually the worst case of damage they have ever seen in san francisco. we are here at third and bryant, where a bunch of people sort of converged on the ballpark and on their way down, they stopped -- these are the offices for wikipedia and you can see all the shattered glass here. this is all the champagne bottles and broken windows that we have here. and we spoke with a security guard who works this area, and he said he was actually assaulted when an angry mob showed up. >> you can see all the glass

thrown. the fire department picked those up. but basically, it was, like, 200 people and, like, i couldn't stop them. >> reporter: you wish you had maybe some police officers here to help? >> wish i had an ak. >> reporter: police officers tell ktvu 2 that officers were outnumber and the department was not prepared to handle the crowds. muni had to shut down the rail service because of glass on the tracks and cut off the power to rail wires because people were jumping on top of the rail cars, setting fires and shooting off fireworks. but this giants win did start off as a celebration. [ cheering ] >> oh, my gosh, it's amazing! i can't believe we did it in four games! >> second championship in three years -- go giants, baby, whoo! >> reporter: now, all over the city, partying hit a feverish pitch, especially at civic center plaza, where more than 10,000 people gathered to watch the game on the jumbotron.

people were dancing and singing in the streets and on top of cars, carrying broom sticks, signifying the sweep of the  tigers, but there's quite a bit of damage and learned at least two officers were hit by flying glass -- one in the leg and one in the arm. an officer also told us that there was a stabbing and a shooting just a few blocks from the ballpark. most of the street sweepers seem to have gone but hearing a lot of brooms -- a lady across the street sweeping outside to get all the shards of glass cleared out of the way. as the cars drive by, you can hear the crunch of the glass so they still have the quite a bit of work to do. maybe they will be able to do that once the sun comes up. live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, channel 2 news. in other parts of the city, several people were arrested overnight in the mission district after some fans became too rowdy there. police in riot gear tried for several hours to disburse the crowds. trash cans were burned in the middle of the street just before 1:00 this morning. police told fans that they were

participating in an unlawful assembly and were toll to leave the area. now, several bonfires set in streets throughout the city. that's huge! people were seen throwing trash can in the fire and some were jumping over the flames. streets were closed -- major traffic problems were cause for people trying to get around the city and home. things got out of hand near seventh and market street in san francisco. one of our photographers took this video of people jumping on top of a muni bus. one person inside making a phone call -- a little worried there. then in the same area, a viewer sent this video of a car flip over by celebrating fans. now, we have complete coverage of the world series on our website -- some of the really exciting times and moments. just go to ktvu.com and click on the "world series" tab. >> all right, pam, 6:35. hurricane sandy gets stronger and strong as it heads to the east coast. thousands of flights have been grounded and stranding a

passengers and disrupting air traffic around the world. ktvu's alec salve range a.j. at the airport. what's the latest on cancellations? >> reporter i just talked with a spokesman here. he told me the latest information -- 150 flights cancelled to and from sfo today. here it is. you can see the board is busy this morning. washington, d.c. -- cancelled, as you can see right here. this is all as a result of hurricane sandy shutting down airplanes on the eastern seaboard. the weather cancellations are piling up. the airlines have cancelled all their flight from sfo to six east coast cities today -- boston, philadelphia, new york's jfk, newark, washington, d.c., and baltimore. any travelers trying to get to those cities may not make it until later this week. most of those flight that are on united airlines because this is one of their hubs, but american, jet blue, virgin,

u.s. airways, and delta impact by the storm as well. the airlines are booking people best they can but of course, a major inconvenience. a short time ago, i talked with a couple from italy who are here in san francisco on vacation and now their cancelled flight to new york means extended vacation. >> we were supposed to leave today but our flight was delayed and now we leaving on friday. a longer stay. three days more in san francisco. >> reporter: you get an extended vacation. >> ah, yes. [ laughter ] cool. >> reporter: that's what you wanted, more time in san francisco. >> yes. >> reporter: the best advice from the airport spokesperson i talk with this morning is for people to come to their airlines, especially if they're traveling to major cities on the eastern seaboard, to see if their flight is, in fact,

cancelled. as we come out live, this is the security checkpoint here in terminal 2. tsa spokesperson -- i should say a tsa representative -- said to me off-camera a short of off- handed way -- boy, things are pretty light today. things are not very busy, not as busy as they should be at sfo. in all likelihood, the reason being the cancellation of so many flights. it seems as though people are calling ahead and realizing their flights are cancel to the east coast and not coming here to sfo. that's the best way to play things this morning. it does seem like the cans lakes will likely continue, according to the spokesperson i talk to, through at least tomorrow. live this morning at sfo, alex savidge, ktvu, channel 2 news. as many as 50 million people could be affect by the storm that is expected to hit landfall on the new jersey coast late today. renie marsh is in asbury park, new jersey, where the storm is kick up the waves. renie? >> reporter: yeah, good morning, pam. i'll tell you, very windy and

not an understatement here. the wind has definitely picked up, still getting light rain. atlantic city mean-looking, shall we say. let's take a lack at the waves -- really choppy out here. we expect the impact -- well, that will be wide-reaching. we're expecting 50 million people impacted by hurricane sandy. sandy is already battering cities on toast coast with heavy rain, strong winds, and pounding surf. tom cor bit warned sandy is not your typical storm. >> this storm is moving slowly and bringing high volumes of rain. essentially, this is a hurricane wrap in a nor'easter. >> reporter: the new york stock exchange suspended trading for monday. broadway shows are dark, and the subway system has stopped running. resident in low-lying areas have been ask to evacuate. new york mayor bloomberg urged residents to respond. >> i can't stress enough this is for your own safety and if

you refuse to evacuate, you're not only putting yourself at risk but also the first responders who will have to assist you in an emergency. >> reporter: president obama has this advice for those live in the storm's path. >> you need to take this very seriously and fellow the instructions of your state and local officials because they are going to proud provide you with the best advice in terms of how to deal with this storm over the coming days. >> reporter: all right, and back out here live, you can see that choppy surf again and, remember this is just a preview of what is to come. we expect sandy will be making that landfall -- zeroing in on the jersey shore just about 50 miles south of where i am. back to you. >> all right, rene, stay safe out there. steve is keeping an eye on a huge storm swell and he will talk about that in a minute. we'll track the path of sandy throughout the morning. you can also get updates any

880. on the peninsula, fog -- a lot of places. 101 looks good to the airport but check your flight because they may be delayed for the cancelled. 6:41. let's go to steve. >> poor all of the abovewe can -- or all of the above. a fog advisory until 8:00 but a couple of real quick updates on sandy. already 50-mile-per-hour wind in boston and marthas vineyard and they're further from where sandy will go on shore. there are possibility of gusts of 90 miles per hour in new york city. it's getting stronger and stronger. for us, we have warm air capping the fog so some is thick on the deck and maybe a little coastal drizzle. i know there's some mist but only had one report so far not only on the coast but inland. we have areas of very thick fog in santa rosa, concord. otherwise a wall of fog and clear. that's what the pattern is this morning. mostly sunny, a little cooler this afternoon. our cloud forecast keeps fog on the coast and a cold front come

in but not until thursday morning. because of the magnitude of sandy, everything downstream is slowing down tremendously so our front, which looked like it would be here wednesday night, coming in thursday morning, but the fog is not going anywhere. if anything, it will probably lift a little bit so it's in the? of low clouds wednesday and thursday, which phones 40s and 50s right now. some areas are on the mild side but system from the north allowing a little bit of a sea breeze to come in. giants victory parade -- a lot of low clouds, 50 and 60, could be a little drizzle but i think more gray skies and not worried about rain for that and not worried about rain wednesday night. in fact, again, it hold off until this time on thursday morning so mostly-cloudy, breezy, maybe drizzle but 50 and 60s. our system moves on, high pressure kind of losing its grip so position by, sun, cooler. dense fog advisory could be just about anywhere around the coast and also inland. 60s and 70s on the temps today

>> good morning. dense fog advisory until 8:00 not only inland but on the coast and highs little cooler but after the fog burns off, sunny, 60s and 70s. >> welcome back. good morning to you. here's a quick look at some of the top stories we're following at 6:47. we're looking live at the damage caused by the hurricane, hurricane sandy. we're tracking the path of it as it moves closer towards the east coast. now, this is live in portsmouth, virginia. there's already been a rescue at sea out there. now, just east of these live pictures, there's been a rescue. the coast guard rescued 14 crew member that had abandon share ship off north carolina's outer banks. two crew members run accounted for. we're also getting reports of a 35-foot section of the

atlantic city boardwalk gave way and we're hearing now that there's serious flooding in manhattan's battery park and brooklyn up in new york. back here at home, san jose firefighters busy trying to fully control a fire at this abandoned warehouse. it started around 4:00 this morning. we have not heard of any injuries yet. firefighters say the building used to house a gymnastics facility but is vacant now. and some giants fans got rowdy last night after the giants won the world series. sh several bonfires like this set up in streets all over the city. people were seen throwing trash can in the fire like right there. some even jumped over the flames. streets had to be closed down and major traffic problems were cause for people trying to get around in the city. sports stores will be busy today with giants fans snapping up world series championship merchandise. ktvu's brian flores is in union

city this morning, where workers have been up all night getting t-shirts ready. brian? >> reporter: hey, hey, pam, good morning to you. they're the hottest commodity in stores to day, the world series giants 2012 world series championship t-shirts and as you said, workers have been working to get them to stores this morning. let's bring in chuck johnson, president of 1204 sports, one of the printing shops that's crank these shirts out. chuck, how excited are you to be a giants fan today? >> well, it's great to be a giants fan and couldn't be better. >> reporter: yeah. talk about the design of the shirts you're creating right now. >> well, we're doing three shirts right now. they call this one the parade t- shirt. this one is the official locker room t-shirt and this is one additional design available at retail. >> reporter: there are other designs as well, correct? >> yeah. these are some of them available on the major league baseball website, as well as local retailers. >> reporter: how late have you and your workers been working?

>> we started at 5:00 a.m. yesterday and have been working about 20 hours on the job so far. >> reporter: yeah. >> reporter: and, i mean, this is one of the hottest items. in terms of a business, like -- how big it is for you that the giants won the world series? >> well, i would say when this happens, once every year or two -- sometimes once every decade -- we do it as much in one day as three or four days of normal production. >> reporter: all right. again, northeast shirts are going to be available at many stores throughout the bay area, notably sports authority and giants dugout stores and should be available this morning. in union city, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. the scandal over spending habits spreading to oakland city government -- the oakland police department. ktvu found some oakland police officers frequent a so-called karaoke bar in the midtown section, a place where at least

one port of oakland executive has spent public dollars on questionable expenses. the oakland police department could not answer questions but after looking at the surveillance video, concerns were echoed from many in law enforcement. two executives were put on leave after our report last week about the director of maritime's $4,500 tab at a houston strip club. >> time 6:51. fog has been a problem this morning -- >> right. >> for drivers. is it still a problem? >> yeah. parts of the east bay and peninsula and, you know, you will wake up and will realize it's going to be tough driving. let's go look at 280 with fog wisping through and we can normally see the train well but obscured by the fog. also this morning at the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a backup that is stretching out

to the foot of the macarthur maze. let's go to the maps and show you northbound 101 and 280 are doing well. let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you. dense fog advisory until 8:00 and for good reason -- not only coast but inland. visibility could be zero -- a little mist maybe closer to the beaches today but that fog advise did -- at least 8:00 but sometimes fog lingers until 9:00. sunny but cooler after the fog burns off. we're going into the cooling trend. tuesday into wednesday, it looks like some rain may make it here thursday morning but the system is slowing down because of the magnitude and strength of sandy back east that is blocking everything. 40s and 50s on the temps -- cool to mild. parade looks fine, overcast with some drizzle but not worried about rain on wednesday. nor wednesday night. i think trick-or-treaters look okay unless you're by the coast and then things could be dicey with drizzle but again the rain will hold off until after midnight and maybe not until thursday morning but 50s and

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. the time is 6:55. the impact of hurricane sandy is felt on the u.s. financial market even though the storm is out sea. there's still no trading on the floors of the new york stock exchange or nasdaq. no electronic trading, either. they could remain closed tomorrow but the decision will be made late today. more than 100 members of california's air national guard are heading to help with rescue efforts. members of the 129th rescue wing are expect to leave around 11:00 a.m. from moffet field. two separate shootings that

seriously injured two people. a man in his early 20s was shot last night on 72nd avenue about 8:30. shell casings were everywhere. that victim reportedly was shot several times. they rushed him to the hospital. we hear he's in critical condition. another man was quit critically wounded on hillside street. this was around 5:00 last night. so far, there's no word of arrests. time 6:56. some giants fans in san francisco traveled almost 2500 miles and they were out in the very cold weather to see the giants. [ yelling indistinctly ] yeah, ability 100 giants fans stay in the stand after last night's big victory over the tigers and chee ed on each player that went into the locker room. hunter pence stop and threw him his hat into the crowd. giants third baseman pablo sandoval, the panda, was named most valuable player of the world series by hitting .500 in
